Review:Oil Cleansing Method with MooGoo Oil Cleanser for Dry Skin

MooGoo Oil Cleanser for Dry Skin 100ml RM 79.00

I've heard a lot about oil cleansing method ( OCM ) from the internet and gathered that many had great results by using this. Some claimed that they have clear, dewy-looking skin and blackheads are gone by using OCM. This cleansing method is that the oil will dissolve the oil within your skin that has hardened with impurities by massaging. In short, OCM is a deep cleansing method. When I heard that it can remove impurities or blackheads, I am all for it! I have really bad congested blackheads at my nose area and I am really hoping that OCM will help me to solve this problem.

Looking for a cleansing oil with natural oils are hard to find in Malaysia and I have known some ladies that resort to doing their own concoctions. However, I was glad that I've found one cleansing oil and it's the cleansing oil from MooGoo.

Product Description

This version has the lowest percentage of drawing oils and highest percentage of moisturising oils for dry skin.

Directions:
The Oil Cleanser can be used in two ways:

For everyday washing, massage some oil onto the face while showering or washing. Allow a minute for the oils to work into the pores. Rinse off with water. No other cleanser should be required. Apply a moisturiser afterward as normal. Note: A toner should not be required as there is some astringent effect with the oils.

For deep cleansing to help clear problem skin, massage the oil onto the face. Apply a warm wash cloth over the face to steam open the pores and allow the cleansing oils to sterilize the pores. Wash off with cold water and apply a moisturiser as normal.

Ingredients: Jojoba Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Petitgrain Oil, Carrot Seed Oil, Lavender Oil, Palmarossa Oil

My Experience

I've decided to try the OCM during my first try using about 2-3 pumps and massage unto my face, targeting my problematic areas ( nose and chin area ) for 10 minutes. The smell is really divine and I feel like I am in the spa! After 10 minutes, I use a warm cloth to cover my face and steam  for 2 minutes. Then I use the same cloth to wipe my face, rinse with warm water and steam again for another 2 minutes. Repeat the final step again to ensure that face is clear of oils. Tone and moisturise as normal.

I personally feel that this method is too time consuming and took me about 30 minutes from start to finish. I can't vouch that my blackheads are removed by this method but I do find that it is slightly clearer and it gave me a shiny nose. I did notice that most of my whiteheads are gone too and this method is good to remove them without using an extractor. However, it didn't give me fairer and radiant skin which I would normally get from my normal exfoliating method.

I also notice that this method do draws out most of my oil from my face. Though my skin did not feel tight after washing, my facial oils seems to absorb rapidly when I apply to my face and I need to add additional moisturiser to keep my face moisturised.

Overall

I have mixed review about this. I like it that somewhat, it helps to clear some of my impurities but I dislike it that it is time consuming, did not brighten my skin tone and left my skin a tad dry. For the Oil Cleansing Method, I would give a rating of 3 out of 5. However, for MooGoo Cleansing Oil, I would give a 3.5 out of 5. I love the smell and I think this works as a normal cleanser too, but I have to double cleanse with my cleanser to remove the excess oil. One problem I have with this is the packaging of the product. The bottle comes with a pump and there is leakage at the neck of the bottle. They really do need to relook into their packaging.

This item was purchased by me for my personal purposes. This review is based on my honest and personal experience with this product and is not influenced by any parties.

  1. Interesting review! It sounds like there's too much castor oil in the mix you're using, which is why you're finding it a little dry for your skin. Also, if you were to add some Polysorbate 80 to the mix, you would find the oil will rinse right off! You could mix this up yourself. Try:

    10% Polysorbate 80
10% Castor Oil if dry, 20% if normal, and 30% if oily
Fill up with oil of choice to make 100%

You might want to add a preservative like Vitamin E too :)

  2. Yeah, it seems a little odd to me that this cleansing oil seems drying to me, while the bottle states that this have the lowest amount of drawing oils. :P

Thanks Sarah for the recipie! I will try this mix once I am done with this one.

  3. No problem! You're right, it is odd that it's labelled for dry skin. Good luck with your mixing :) If you have trouble rinsing it off for some reason, just add more Poly 80 :)

  4. I have this one at home too, but for Combination skin, and I love it.
I don´t really understand why you massage it into your skin for about 10 min though! There are quicker ways to do it! :) Just a few minutes should be enough.

I do it the quick way: wash my face with water, massage the oils into the skin for about two minutes, while it soaks into my skin I brush my teeth for a few minutes, and when I´m finished with that I rinse my face again with water. I´m finished in less than 10 minutes! :)
On the instructions that came with this product (bought it online) they say: "If you don´t have time to use it as per the instruction on the back, you can always massage it onto the face and then just wash it off after a couple of minutes.". So it is not necessary to spend 30 min on this method every time.

Sometimes it is nice to get yourself an extra treat, then I understand if you wanna spend more time on it :)

  5. Hi Susanna! I did the comparison between using steaming for 10 minutes ( 3 times ) for deep cleansing vs the 10 minute method you mentioned. I find that the 1st method seems to clear my skin wherelse the 2nd method is good for everday fuss free cleansing.

I think it all depends on what we want to acheive though.

  6. hi, I'm very interested to try the cleansing oils from Moo Goo, since their shampoo and conditioner works very well for me.. May I know from which pharmacy/shop did you purchase your cleansing oil from?(I'm assuming you live in KL/Selangor..) It seems to be hard to find, so if you could help me, it would be great, thanks so much in advance :)

  7. Hi there! Unfortunately, the cleansing oils are only available through purchasing them online. You may go to their web: http://www.moogoo.my
    to find out more.

What I did was calling them directly and collecting them from their office:P

    Hope this helps!

It sounded like great marketing. I've just got the oil cleanser and face cream - fingers crossed! My skin is dry and with blackheads around the nose too!

  9. hi talking abt pdt reviews, sometimes I am doubting all the product review too. Are all companies paying ppl to write review for them or is it true product review?

Well as for your blog, I definitely believe its true as you are trying a lot of brands and I am happy to see Moogoo brand here.

Reason being, I have just bought their eczema starter pack for my hubby and daughter as both them are having very sensitive skin. Have been trying for about 3 weeks now, I would said I am quite happy with their product.

Am thinking of trying their shampoo and conditioner for my girl. Any tips on these two?

  10. Thank you for trusting in my reviews:) In this blog, I can only be truthful in relating my experience with products that I have used. It is unfortunate that there are some reviews out there that seems too good to be true. Though I can't say anything about it, it is up to the discretion of readers to decide in the end.
Hmm..I'm afraid that I won't be able to give you any views on the shampoo and conditioner because I have not use it on myself. Do google online for more reviews and see if your are comfortable to try it or not.

  11. I use straight Apricot kernel oil for OCM..don't dare to use castor after reading so many horror reviews. So far it's worked for me..clogged pore plugs massaged out & all that. I follow up with cream cleanser as I somehow don't trust just the warm wet face cloth to get rid of all the oil. So far no major break outs or more dryness. OCM is rather tedious though so don't know how long I will have the patience to keep it up!

    1. Hi Angie! Apricot kernel oil is light, unlike Castor which is quite heavy. The reason a warm cloth is used here is to open up the pores further so that all the impurities can be eliminated. Plus, because this cleansing oil contains castor, it is best to remove it thoroughly with warm water.
I have since move on from this method, where I am more comfortable with the traditional exfoliation process. In my routine, I am using only cream cleanser and gel cleanser.
