Niacinamide- An anti-aging powerhouse ingredient!

I love reading about ingredients in the products that I use because I want to know what kind of benefits of that particular ingredient would do for my skin. Last week, I did a search on this particular ingredient called Niacinamide.

What is Niacinamide?

Known as Vitamin B3 and nicotinic acid, niacinamide is a potent cell-communicating ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging skin. Assuming skin is being protected from sun-exposure, niacinamide can improve skin's elasticity, dramatically enhance its barrier function, help erase discolorations and revive skin's healthy tone and texture. ( Source from here )

What It Does?

Topically applied niacinamide has been shown to increase ceramide and free fatty acid levels in skin, prevent skin from losing water content, and stimulate microcirculation in the dermis. It also has a growing reputation for being able to treat uneven skin tone and to mitigate acne and the red marks it leaves behind ( known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation ). It is an excellent ingredient for those struggling with wrinkles and breakouts. Niacinamide is stable in the presence of heat and light. ( Source from here )

Visible Benefits

It can give visible reduction to the appearance of the skin aging, making skin begin to appear fresher. Hyperpigmentation that can be the result of years of sun exposure can also be improved, lightening the darker areas of the skin with the use of niacinamide. The same benefits apply when it is used to reduce the redness and blotchiness that is sometimes seen on the face. This ingredient can have beneficial effects on rosacea, a skin condition that can cause deeply red pigmentation and inflammation on the complexion.

It does this by helping alleviate skin sensitivity and reduces the reactivity of the skin to irritants of rosacea sufferers. Topical niacinamide is also wonderful for people with oily shine. It helps regulate excessive sebum output without leaving the person's skin dry or stripped.

One of niacinamide most powerful benefits is its ability to get rid of acne spots, and face acne scars.

Not Only That....

This same ingredient will add great moisture to the skin and hydrate it to such a degree while also taking care of the other issues that are associated with aging, is very unusual. Niacinamide benefits are many and are varied. There are several well known brands that incorporate this versatile ingredient in their formula and it is well worth the label reading and the research that you may do in order to seek the right brand and product.

Some brands, although they contain niacinamide, it is not at a sufficient concentration to give visible results. Most of the clinical studies that have been performed on topical niacinamide showing the above benefits have used creams or gels with concentration ranging from 2% to 5%. ( Source from here )
