DIY: All Purpose Eucalyptus Water

A couple of months ago, I wrote about Eucalyptus Oil and It's Uses and I thought this is a good time for me to share what I have been using it for.

To summarize, Eucalyptus oil is one of the most powerful antiseptic with several disinfectant properties. Its powerful anti-bacteria properties helps to relief and soothe pains.

I whipped up a simple concoction of:

100ml water + 3 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil + 2 drops of Lavender Essential Oil

.....and bottled up the concoction in my hubby's empty glass perfume bottle.

As Room Disinfectant/ Natural Refreshener

Most of the time, I mainly use it as a room disinfectant or at times, use it to mask out unpleasant smells. I find that it works really well because I once use it when my hubby was sick with fever and flu. I personally felt that the air in the room was slightly thick and musty, and I don't want to risk being infected, seeing that I need to take care of him. :) Plus, if the air is cleaner or purified, I see higher chances of him getting well...soon! Well, my hubby eventually got well 3 days after and thank God, I didn't caught the flu bug.

I also use it as a air refresher, should anyone uses the bathroom. I am quite sensitive to smells and a couple of squirts of the little mixture does work wonders. The spray is like my little wand to remove the unpleasant smells!

As Deodorant

Next, I experimented it as my deodorant. At night, I squirt some of the mixture unto a cotton pad and wipe it to my pits. I am happy to report that I did not smell any unpleasant smell at all the next day! I reapply again in the morning and wow...this controlled the smell much better than Melvita's!

However, just as I thought I found a HG deodorant, my hopes were dashed after 1 week of usage. The effect is not long lasting as before and the smell came back. :( Its funny that new products seemed to worked well for me for a couple of days and later, my body is automatically immune to it all together.

Other than the above, this concoction is handy to use too when you need to wipe your tables, kitchen tops or even toilet seats just to make sure it is properly disinfected. This is perfect because it is non-toxic and is an environmentally friendly way to clean.:)

  1. Is Eucalyptus oil the same as Tea Tree oil? I have been using diluted tea tree oil solution for my one of my dogs' hot spots. It dries up the spot but takes a few days and the best is the smell of the solution smoothes my dog. It seemed to relax him very quickly.

I squirt a few drops of lavendar oil in the washer when I wash the dogs' bed casings. After laundering, it smells good to me but to the younger one, he must not like it coz he rubs his whole 92 pounds body on it....as if telling me "where is my smell???" :)

    1. Hey Dawn aka 2crazydogs! What I understand is both Eucalyptus and tea tree oil is a antiseptic. Eucalyptus has a sharper smell than tea tree, which some may not like it. Don't switch oils if tea tree helps your dog to relax and treat spots. Lavender is a form of antiseptic as well but it is generally use for calming and smell great too.

  3. I love the smell of eucalyptus especially when I have flu and a runny nose. Very soothing to inhale the scent.

Btw, try the black formulation soap from Tanamera for body odour. I use this everyday when I shower and I must say, I'm very convinced. I have a BO problem that makes it difficult to wear certain fabrics and no deodorant could fix the problem. Then I started using the soap and with my Mukti deodorant, I have not had to worry about BO. Worked for me. :)

    1. Hi Chui Shia! Oh, you like it? Yeah, it's great for nose issues. However, there are a lot of variation of Eucalyptus and the one I bought, which is Smithii, is not like the regular Eucalyptus. It is very very strong.

Oh, thanks for your suggestion on the BO. I have FINALLY found the right deodorant ( natural as well ) and my search is over. Will be sharing on the blog real soon.

  4. I understand that natural deodorants do a natural detox and so it could be why the odor returned after a few days. Did you persist using it again? It might work cos it happened to me and I found out that it was a detox process and not the problem with the deodorant. I wanted to write something about this but just haven't got down to it...maybe I should now.

    1. Hi Sesame! Yes, I started using it since Nov and was using it regularly for at least 1-2 months. The first week was fine but then the smell came back after that. It's not long lasting as I hope it to be. I have to pair it up with my normal deo, just to mask the embarassing smell.

  5. Hi there,

my concoction is a combination of cornstarch, tea tree oil and baking soda, and some shea butter to hold it all together. It works like magic for me, but baking soda might not be suitable for sensitive skin.
